Artists Statement
My work focuses on exploring themes of identity, vulnerability and emotion with a focus on color, form and texture. Most of my pieces are directly inspired by the people, places and events and around me. I use the creation process as a way to unpack, understand and let go of the negative things that have happened to me, and show my love and appreciation for the positive. Through the process of personal introspection, I hope the viewer can connect to this work and build interpersonal relationships with both myself and the work.
My media of choice is acrylics, pen and ink, utilizing a variety of supports. I have a strong focus on intricate, detailed work using techniques that are very meticulous such as pointillism since I personally find the repetitive nature soothing. I am an all-around creative and love to experiment with different materials, techniques and artforms.
My creative process is fairly chaotic; oftentimes I find myself on the floor with my materials scattered around me and some form of background noise occurring. I’ve recently found my love for the process of finger painting, foregoing the brushes altogether, using my intuition to guide my strokes, expressing directly from palette to canvas. I find that this is incredibly cathartic for me; it allows me to physically connect to a piece in ways I haven't been able to do before. I see my pieces as a time capsule, containing fragments of myself at different points in life. I like to think of them as an extension of myself and hope that viewers of my work will see a little bit of my heart and energy in these paintings, and perhaps a little bit of themselves too. In the end, I hope they have an understanding of who I am as an artist, feeling drawn to my creations while forming their own personal connections with my work.
